Everyday Eats: Monday, February 9th, 2015

Welcome back!  Last week was hectic and crazy and I don’t want to repeat it.  Our kitten Shadow became blocked while suffering a UTI that we thought had cleared up, and I had to take him to the emergency vet for a catheter.  Except… he’s so small that we had a very hard time inserting the catheter (since it was after hours, I played the part of vet tech).  In fact, the vet didn’t actually manage to get it in, and I spent last Sunday night as a wreck.  Monday morning she called me to let me know that she and one of the other vets had managed to insert it, whew.  But because Shadow is so small, it was very difficult, and if he obstructs again we are going to just send him straight into surgery to have a procedure they refer to as a “p.u.” – a perineal urethrotomy.  Basically it would reroute his plumbing and remove his penis so he would pee like a girl and never re-obstruct.  Man, isn’t science amazing?  I never thought I’d see the day where I had a transgendered cat.  And I hope I don’t, because that means he heals well and doesn’t have this problem again!  But it’s nice to know that the option is there.

So now that we’ve talked about cats undergoing sex changes, shall we get onto the food?  That’s what you’re here for, after all.

Keep in mind that the snack sticks I ate for breakfast aren’t pictured.  I washed them down with a Bojangles unsweet tea – my favorite!

I can’t believe I ate so few calories today.  I’m actually pretty full and while I was thinking of whipping some peanut butter, I don’t think I could eat it.  It’s weird how appetite changes, huh?  I’m not going to worry about being so low today, because I’m sure I’ll make up for it by being ravenous and eating over my goal some other day this week.  As long as I average out…

Speaking of which, I lost two pounds last week!  Yay!  So at least something good came from the hot mess that was my life at the moment.

Tomorrow’s work lunch is going to be the same as today’s, and I’ve got some chicken thighs thawing on the counter to pop in the crockpot in the morning.  It’s a lifting day, so it’ll be nice to have something ready as soon as we return from the gym.
