It’s been a busy week. Today Meemaw and I ran some errands, so I ate lunch out. We did our typical thing where she got Krystals and I got Buffalo Wild Wings. I love .60c wing Tuesdays!! Then this evening, CB and I had to run to Walmart to refill our water jugs. Unfortunately, when we got there, we discovered the dispenser was broken. I called another Walmart in town while we were walking to the car to see if they had a water dispenser. While I was on the phone, a lady with long gray hair got out of a car the next aisle over and hobbled over on a cane, asking CB for gas money. He told her we don’t carry cash, and we went on our way. When we got to the Walmart up the road, we ran in to double check to make sure they had a water dispenser before carrying all of our jugs in. As we walked back to the car, the exact same thing happened – the same lady got out of neighboring car and approached ME for money!
Keep in mind this was a Walmart 15 minutes away, and she swore she was stranded with no gas!!
UGH!! I HATE scammers!
People living in poverty have it bad enough; these scammers make otherwise compassionate people look askew at the homeless and beggars. I never know whether or not to trust someone asking for help on the streets! I hate that these scum prey on people. They especially like to target the elderly – I can’t tell you how many times Meemaw and Sugarbandit have been asked for money while I was chauffering them around. And almost every time, I’ve seen the “beggar” run off to a nearby car and speed away. Despicable!
Anyway, to cut the story short, I alerted the store management to the issue. They called the security guards and when the lady was confronted, she RAN away to the car and the driver peeled off. As the manager said, “She ran really fast for an old lady with a cane!”
Sucks that she probably went back to the original Walmart.
Well, enough of that drama – on to today’s food!
Today was a pretty good day. I hit my protein goal and stayed less than my calorie limit. My macros were also pretty good, with 55/41/3. I was very low carb today, woot. That may or may not make up for the french fries I had with lunch yesterday (whoops).
Tomorrow morning, a representative from a life insurance company is coming to our house to take bloodwork and urine samples from me and CB. After dealing with the aftermath of Sugarbandit’s death, we realized how important it is to protect ourselves with life insurance. While we want to get “whole life” insurance policies with our employers in the future, neither one of us is working in our career field right now. So we are trying to buy 10 year “term” life insurance to cover us in case of unexpected death. I feel very grown-up typing that. We bank and have car insurance through USAA, and they also offer life insurance, so we applied through them. And now we have to have some basic diagnostics done to make sure we’re healthy enough to buy policies. I have a slight fear that the ketones in our blood and urine might send up some red flags, but I’ve read several sources that say that won’t impact anything. We are going to let the representative know about our diet and that our doctor approves of it. Fingers crossed that everything turns out fine and we get approved for our policies!
